Franklin Man Brought Back to Life Following Near Fatal ATV Accident

At 8:30 this evening, John Taylor (48, Franklin) was operating an ATV northbound in the ditch alongside the 3000 block of North Graham Rd.  He didn’t hear the shouted warning from Andrew Copley, who was following him on a second ATV, of the culvert that was very quickly approaching.

Taylor’s ATV fell down into the culvert with the front of his ATV striking the concrete before flipping end over end twice, ultimately landing on his head with the ATV on top of him.  The ATV, a 1984 Suzuki 125 3 wheeler which belonged to Copley, was totaled.

When first responders arrived on scene, Taylor had no pulse.  Medics from the Franklin Fire Department performed CPR and were successful in getting a heartbeat.  Taylor was transported by lifeline to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.  While on the helicopter, Taylor’s heart stopped twice and he was brought back both times.

Taylor is currently in critical but stable condition at Methodist Hospital, where he is being treated for multiple fractured vertebrae, among other injuries.

Taylor was not wearing any protective equipment at the time of the accident.  Alcohol and speed are currently suspected of being the primary causes.  The investigation is still ongoing.
