On Saturday, March 12th, 2016, at approximately 2:29 a.m., Carmel Police responded to the area of Huntington Drive and St. Charles Place in reference to an unconscious female lying in the roadway. It was discovered the unconscious female had been struck by a vehicle in the 5000 block of Huntington Drive.
Based on preliminary information, it appears that a Gray 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by Dawnisha N. Simmons (21 year old from Indianapolis, IN) was traveling eastbound on Huntington Drive. The victim (23 year old from Carmel, IN) was running alongside the Jeep Grand Cherokee when she was struck and ran over.
The victim sustained internal and head injures due to the crash. She was transported to 86th Street St. Vincent Hospital where she is listed in critical condition.
The Carmel Police Department Accident Investigation team responded to the crash scene and they are investigating the accident.
Through further investigation, Simmons was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated (Per Se) Class C-Misdemeanor, Operating While Intoxicated (Endangering A Person) Class A-Misdemeanor and Operating While Intoxicated (Causing Serious Bodily Injury) Level 6-Felony.
Simmons was later transported to the Hamilton County Jail for further processing. Her bond was set at $7,500.
